Puerto Rico Visa Process
Visa Types
US citizens and permanent residents do not require a visa to enter Puerto Rico.
Foreign nationals from visa-exempt countries do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Visa-exempt countries include:
- Most European countries
- Canada
- Mexico
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Japan
- South Korea
Citizens of all other countries require a visa to enter Puerto Rico.
Required Documents
For Visa-Exempt Countries:
- Valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining
For Visa Required Countries:
- Valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining
- Completed US Visa Application Form DS-160
- Two recent passport-style photographs
- Proof of financial means
- Proof of travel itinerary
- Supporting documents depending on the purpose of travel (e.g., employment contract, invitation letter)
Application Procedures
For Visa-Exempt Countries:
No application is required. Simply present your valid passport at the port of entry.
For Visa Required Countries:
- Apply Online: Complete the US Visa Application Form DS-160 online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/.
- Schedule an Interview: Once you have completed the DS-160, schedule an interview at the nearest US embassy or consulate.
- Attend Interview: Bring all required documents to your interview and be prepared to answer questions about your travel plans and purpose of visit.
- Pay Visa Fee: If your visa is approved, you will be required to pay a visa fee.

Timelines

- Generally, it takes 2-4 weeks to process a visa application.
